CAL RUSSET was built in the year 1903 near the river Fluvia, at the beginning on the road to the village of Santa Pau . In those days was a warehouse, when it was possible to find grain, flour, wines and several handmade liquors elaborated by Josep Gou Marrot, well-known as “l'avi Pep” (grandfather Pep).
Therefore, the liquors of the grandfather as spirits, anise, rum and ratafia, were some of the products that offered the warehouse. Afterwards, the eldest girl of the matrimony, Carme, married with Francesc Codina from the village of Les Preses , who managed the business. From then, Cal Russet began to make anise, cocoa cream, stomach drink, coffee cream, egg's liquor and brandy among other things. But the great speciality it was, the “Gran Licor Russet” elaborated with aromatic herbs, orange peel and “ratafia”.
Nowadays the craft enterprise continue, but making the ratafia only. The ratafia is a special and delicious aniseed drink with several aromatic herbs and green walnuts, with a careful process of soaking, ageing and filting. Their catalogue contains two products only: “Ratafia Russet” with three formats (75cl. 35cl. and 5cl.) and "Ratafia d'Olot" (1 litre).
