COCA DE LLARDONS (Pork scratching cake)
The “Coca de Llardons” (Pork scratching cake), has its origin in the traditional pig slaughter, a very famous tradition in many villages in Catalonia. People obtained the cake, after to blend the pork scratching with bread, and to bake the mass in the oven, like a traditional way to celebrate the pig slaughter event.
Therefore, we can say the “Coca de llardons” was the traditional dessert in the pig slaughter's day. |

TORTELL ADOBAT AMB MATAFALUGA (Roscon cake aniseed)
In Olot, the “Tortell de Matafaluga” (Roscon cake aniseed), is the present that the godfather give to his godchildren in the Palm Sunday. Other places in Catalonia have the same tradition, but with a different round cake. Its aniseed taste is one of the difference characteristics from other round cakes.
We know, this tradition it was a Jewish feast. Remember the medieval Besalú, a close city from Olot, with trace remains of a Jewish community. Likewise, other people around the world celebrate with this special Jewish round cake, the “Yom Kippur” or Day of Atonement. Some people mention the cake as “wheel of fortune” and it’s sharing out with honey over it.
